MMA's Contributions

In addition to responding to daily calls from our members, the Association in 2004:

  • Monitored all aspects of the Dirigo Health legislation and reported regularly to members on its progress.

  • Prepared our biannual Legislative Summary of all legislation affecting Maine physicians.

  • Increased membership in MMA for the 12th straight year!

  • Continued discount programs for telephone service, collections, merchant banking, wireless phone service, office supplies, payroll processing, and car rentals. These programs are saving MMA members real dollars - frequently more than the cost of dues! (See the entire list of Corporate Affiliates)

  • Continued our coding/reimbursement consultation program, allowing member access to professional coding advice on a daily basis free of charge through The Coding Center.

  • Published six issues of Maine Medicine, informing members of the legal, legislative, and regulatory news they need to operate their practices.

  • Published our weekly electronic newsletter entitled Maine Medicine Weekly Update that informs members and their office managers of relevant information relating to that week.

  • Held our 13th Annual Physicians' Education Program for physicians and office managers, offered in both Auburn and Bangor.

  • Reviewed employment contracts and managed care provider agreements for members and responded to hundreds of member calls on the legal hotline.

  • Held a successful Annual Meeting with more than 300 attendees.

  • Celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the Penobscot County Medical Society at a Gala event attended by more that 150 people.
