Services
Our services include:
- Professional/Educational Improvement: The Maine Medical Association publishes a weekly e-newsletter and a bi-monthly newsletter and sponsors annual scientific lecture sessions and exhibits, as well as an Annual Physician Practice Education Seminar. In addition, it co-sponsors a number of other beneficial programs and certifies reputable organizations which promote continuing medical education opportunities for Category 1 CME credit. On the first Friday morning of each month, an educational program is offered at the MMA offices ("First Fridays" series).
- Legislative and Regulatory Assistance: Legislative and Regulatory Assistance in tracking bills and proposed rules of interest to Maine physicians and of importance to continue high quality health care for the public. It provides a voice in your dialogue with the legislature and the bureaucracy, especially important in this era of health care reform.
- Malpractice Insurance Company: Established through the efforts of the Maine Medical Association, Medical Mutual Insurance Company of Maine has offered professional liability coverage to the physicians of Maine for nearly thirty years.
- Professional Association with Colleagues: An asset in keeping current with professional progress and problems in your area.
- Insurance: Coverage opportunities for you, your family and your office staff. You can get health insurance, office overhead, accidental death, disability income, term life and employee accident/disability insurance through our approved brokers.
- Professional Counsel: In the screening of medical matters which may affect the rights of the public to receive medical care of the highest quality, and your right to practice medicine with the best available equipment and techniques.
- Medical Education Assistance: Through the separate and tax-deductible Maine Medical Education Foundation, more than two million dollars has been provided in medical education loans.
- Public Health: Through the work of the Maine Medical Education Trust, thousands of dollars have been made available to organizations providing public health services, including The Aids Resource Center, The Safe Kids Coalition, and the American Lung Association of Maine.
- Professional Committees: More than fifteen standing and ad hoc committees, including the Committee on Physician Health which runs a program for impaired colleagues, with a knowledge of Maine people and Maine health care needs. The expertise of these committees, like much other work of the Association, benefits all doctors in the State - members and non-members alike.
- Peer Review: The Association's contracts with hospitals and physicians to provide routine peer review in areas where the small number of physicians makes local review difficult.
- Quality Improvement: The Association operates a quality improvement program in which members can participate and receive the statutory protections against disclosure of QI materials.
- The Coding Center: The Association offers coding advice and education through The Coding Center.
