Academic Detailing

The MICIS, Maine's Academic Detailing Program is an innovative pilot program that designed to provide independent clinical information to Maine physicians and other prescribers of medication. By aligning prescribing practices with the best scientific evidence on the treatment of common clinical problems, it is hoped that patient outcomes can be improved. And while the primary goal of the program is to improve quality, the experience in other states has demonstrated that academic detailing also helps to control costs, which obviously has important implications for access to care. The program has been named the Maine Independent Clinical Information Services or MICIS.
