Medical Professionals Health Program

Monitoring and Advocacy for Maine Medical Professionals in Recovery

No one is immune from the dangers of alcohol or drug use which might impair one’s ability to practice. Medical professionals are subject to high degrees of stress and the potential for impairment of practice may result from addictive, psychiatric or medical disorders.

The Medical Professionals Health Program, a program of the Maine Medical Association, assists medical professionals of Maine by providing confidential and compassionate assistance and advocacy. Our clinical professionals and committee members help participants with diagnosed substance use disorders. Although we do not provide evaluation or treatment, we help participants better understand the treatment and recovery process and help implement strategies for return to safe practice.

Please take a moment and review our website and to find out more about how the MPHP may help you, a family member, colleague, or a professional you know get the help that they need.

If you know a Maine-licensed health professional who may be in need of help, or if you, yourself, are concerned about the possibility that you may be impaired, please contact the MPHP.
