Voluntary Practice Assessment Initiative
The Maine Medical Association (MMA) and the Maine Osteopathic Association (MOA) Voluntary Practice Assessment Initiative (VPAI) is a program that offers confidential practice assessments to primary care physician practices in Maine. Participation is offered on a voluntary basis and is focused primarily on small, independent primary care practices. The project is funded by the Maine Quality Forum and will be conducted through the remainder of 2008.
Office practices may choose to limit the chart review to a sample of 25 charts or have the review conducted in accordance with the Pathways to Excellence evaluation criteria. If a practice chooses the later, they may submit the findings to the Maine Health Management Coalition for recognition by April 30, 2008 for possible recognition and tier one status in the State Employee Health Plan benefit program. Practices may of course, also maintain the results for internal purposes only; the projects staff are committed appropriate confidential methods of collection and preservation.
Each provider of adult care in the practice may receive one free assessment of their patient’s satisfaction and their adherence to either evidence based diabetes or cardiovascular treatment. Pediatric practices may measure patient satisfaction and either asthma or immunization evidence based adherence. An additional measure can be provided at cost for the practice during the free review, if desired. More information on the program can be found by phoning Nancy Morris at 799-1090.
