About the MMA

The Maine Medical Association continues to stay true to its Mission and Goals. Since its founding in Brunswick in 1853, MMA has been about physicians, their patients and public health. The Association is led by its volunteer Officers. The organization is one of fifty state medical societies that make up the American Medical Association and two delegates and two alternate delegates from MMA to the AMA House of Delegates make up our AMA Delegation.

The day to day work of the Association is guided by several Committees and Sections and led by a 26-member Board of Directors and 9-member Executive Committee. All of the committees are established in the Bylaws which were significantly amended and modernized in 2011 and last updated in 2017. The leadership and staff work hard to be a knowledge-based organization with a modern governance structure.

At its offices, just minutes from the Capital in Augusta, in the Frank O. Stred Building at 30 Association Drive in Manchester, Maine, a staff of a dozen dedicated individuals carry out the directives of the committees and sections and the resolutions passed at the annual general membership meeting. The Staff Directory lists the current staff members and their titles.
