FAMILY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN / CLINICIAN LEADER

Description:

The Maine Medical Center (MMC) and Maine Medical Partners (MMP) are seeking an outstanding clinician-educator to serve as the physician leader for the Portland Family Medicine Center and as Associate Medical Director over both the Portland Family Medicine Center and the Falmouth Primary Care Practice.  

The Portland Family Medicine practice is the location for the main outpatient clinical sites for MMC’s Family Medicine Residency Program, as well as a Sports Medicine fellowship, Integrated Medicine fellowship and a Preventive Medicine residency within the department of family medicine.  The Associate Medical Director has a key role on the primary care leadership team working with Maine Medical Partner’s Primary Care Director and Senior Director to set priority and direction for primary care and help maintain the operational aspects of the practice, including quality metrics and financial performance.   

The successful candidate will be Board Certified in Family Medicine with at least 3 years of experience.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate leadership, organizational, and mentoring skills.  Past practice management experience and knowledge of performance improvement is required. 

The position will also entail serving as the Medical Director for MMC’s Family Medicine Residency, a key leadership role in the program and the successful candidate will provide direct clinical supervision of Family Medicine residents and Tufts University School of Medicine-Maine Track students, and will participate in residency didactic teaching, advising and recruiting.

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for clinical strategy, initiatives and clinical innovation to improve member experience, quality and cost.  Responsibilities include: development of provider networks and relationships; establishing quality-based service contracts; and establishing and implementing standards and policies to ensure the quality of the medical care provided to Members. 

  • MD or DO with unrestricted medical license in Maine required.
  • Minimum of five+ years direct clinical experience in area of clinical practice, insurance experience in a leadership role in medical staff organization activities, and management experience within a health care delivery system.  Minimum of five years’ experience in medical management in a managed care setting or the equivalent.

MEDICAL BOARD PHYSICIAN

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS or Retirement System) seeks to engage additional physicians for the Medical Board.  Physicians of the Medical Board must hold a Maine Physician’s license in good standing and be Board Certified in their area of practice.  Preferred candidates will have experience in case review and in one of the following disciplines: Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Physiatry or Occupational Medicine.  Medical Board physicians work under contract in an advisory capacity on an hourly fee basis.  Typical time commitment is 10-25 hours per month with flexibility of scheduling.  Some case file review and discussion can be done via videoconferencing.    This is a contract position and not eligible for benefits.

MainePERS administers a disability retirement program for eligible members of the Retirement System.   The Board of Trustees engages physicians as independent contractors to serve on a Medical Board.  That Board evaluates medical records and provides written consultations to MainePERS and its hearing officers regarding the existence of diagnosable conditions and the presence and permanency of functional limitations in disability retirement cases.
